Former Police Officer

I am an abuse survivor.  I have a BA in Political Science, a Masters Degree in Education and have worked as a police dispatcher, police officer, jailor, deputy sheriff, deputy coroner, prison counselor and parole officer.  I have also worked as a school security officer and as an armed security in the 1996 summer Olympics under SOLEC (State Olympic Law Enforcement Command).  I served in law enforcement for 20 years and an additional 4 years as a state certified reserve deputy.  Through my work in law enforcement I have seen the results of heinous acts perpetuated by adults upon children.  I joined the P. Luna Foundation in 2005 because I wanted to help in making the world a better and safer place for children.

I am involved in this cause because I believe it is imperative that we make every effort to break the cycle of abuse. It is my hope that more people will be made aware of this destructive cycle and makes the decision to become part of the solution.

I believe that the vision and direction of the P. Luna Foundation, as established by and directed by Barbara Ochoa, has enormous potential in bringing a disturbing social problem to the knowledge of the general public. As social agencies gain further information and awareness – because of the work being done by the Foundation – I believe more donors will become invested and interested in creating an even stronger organization. Much praise must go to Barbara Ochoa and her affiliates for bringing a social problem that has long been overlooked by the public to a national forum.

Lori Barnes
Lori Barnes
Professional Family Therapist

Why I am interested in the cause? The first reason is to support my long time friend in this endeavor. I have watched her put all of her passion and energy into this project for years and it has bloomed into a wonderful organization and I am very proud of her and the work she has accomplished. The second reason is because it is a much needed service. The more resources and services that can be provided to the population of men (and women) who have experienced abuse the better. Abuse extends beyond the person who was abused, it affects the whole family, those who enter relationships with those who have experienced abuse and their children. This cause directly targets males who have experienced abuse which is a unique approach as most services are for women or unisex.  What I can bring to the foundation: Clinical advice and experience as I am a licensed MFT (Marriage and Family Therapist) as well as years of experience working for a non-profit organization. Additionally I have extensive skill in event planning, marketing and promotion.

Retired Scientist, Father and Grandfather

As a father, I raised three sons, mostly as a single parent, so I am very concerned about boys growing up healthy and preventing male child abuse. I am now a grandfather of five, three of which are little boys. I deeply support the P Luna Foundation’s mission to fight child abuse through education and building awareness. Before meeting Barbara Ochoa, like most people, I had no idea of the prevalence of male child abuse in our society. As a former scientist with a Fortune 500 company, I understand the power of organizations to unite people and work together to accomplish good for our society. For these reasons, I am honored to serve on the Board of Directors of this fine organization.
